Rabat - Global Firepower’s latest report ranks Morocco as the 59th most powerful military worldwide in 2025, out of 145 countries assessed.
With a Power Index score of 1.1273, where a lower score reflects greater strength, Morocco continues to bolster its position on the global stage.
The country comes 7th on the African continent, following Egypt (19th globally), Algeria (26th), South Africa (40th), Nigeria (36th), Ethiopia (52th), and Angola (56th).
First on the list is the US with a Power Index score of 0.0744, followed by Russia with a score of 0.0788, and third on the podium is China.
A strong base for Morocco's armed forces
The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) include 200,000 active-duty personnel, bolstered by 150,000 reservists and 50,000 paramilitary forces.
Over 15 million individuals are eligible for military service, offering a significant pool for recruitment and mobilization, according to the report.
Morocco’s ground forces operate a diverse array of equipment. The army’s arsenal features 903 tanks, 7,877 armored vehicles, 396 self-propelled artillery systems, 153 towed artillery units, and 129 mobile rocket launchers.
This range of weaponry allows for versatility in handling different operational demands.
Air and naval capabilities
The Royal Air Force commands 260 aircraft, including 83 fighter jets, two refueling planes, and 78 helicopters.
These assets boost Morocco’s ability to safeguard its airspace and extend its reach beyond its borders when necessary.
The Royal Navy operates a fleet that includes six frigates, one corvette, and 105 patrol vessels, though it lacks assets such as submarines, destroyers, and helicopter carriers.
Increased investment in defense
Morocco allocated nearly MAD 135 billion ($13 billion) for its defense budget in 2025, showing a strong commitment to strengthening its military capabilities.
This funding supports the procurement of advanced equipment and the development of a domestic defense industry, achieved through collaboration with international partners.
This year’s Global Firepower report notes Morocco’s steady strides in enhancing its military strength.
By prioritizing modernization and strategic partnerships, the country has advanced its position on the global stage.
Morocco now ranks 59th in the world, a clear improvement from its 61st place in 2024.
