Rabat - Several provinces are bracing for snowfall, a cold wave, and thunderstorms from Sunday to Wednesday, according to an orange-level alert issued by the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM).
Snow is forecast at elevations above 1,800 meters, with accumulations ranging from 15 to 35 centimeters expected on Sunday and Monday in the provinces of Azilal, Tinghir, Al Haouz, and Ouarzazate.
Meanwhile, lighter snowfall of 5 to 10 centimeters is anticipated in Midelt, Taroudant, Beni Mellal, and Ifrane during the same period.
Temperatures are projected to drop significantly from Sunday to Wednesday, with nighttime lows ranging between -5°C and 1°C and daytime highs reaching only 4°C to 10°C.
Affected provinces include Boulemane, Midelt, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Figuig, and Ouarzazate, where residents should brace for a persistent cold wave.
Additionally, localized heavy thunderstorms are forecast on Sunday between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., with rainfall amounts ranging from 15 to 30 millimeters.
These storms are expected to impact the provinces of Youssoufia, Rehamna, Marrakech, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Chichaoua, Settat, Khouribga, Benslimane, and Fquih Ben Salah.
DGM advises residents in these areas to remain cautious as the weather may lead to disruptions.
On Friday, the DGM issued a similar weather alert, indicating the seriousness of the current conditions. Releasing another alert today shows the importance of staying cautious as the adverse weather persists in several provinces.
