Doha - Kazakhstan and Morocco have signed three significant agreements covering criminal extradition, legal assistance in criminal cases, and the transfer of convicted persons, marking a major step in bilateral law enforcement cooperation.
According to Kazakh media, the agreements were signed during Kazakh Prosecutor General Berik Assylov’s working visit to Morocco on December 13, where he met with Moroccan Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi.
The prosecutor’s office emphasized that these agreements carry particular strategic importance for Kazakhstan due to Morocco’s geographical position along a crucial route connecting Africa and Europe through the Strait of Gibraltar.
The new framework aims to close potential escape routes for criminals while strengthening legal cooperation mechanisms between the two nations.
The newly signed agreements are designed to enhance collaboration between law enforcement agencies in combating crime, with a particular focus on transnational criminal activities.
Both countries have indicated that these agreements will contribute significantly to ensuring law and order, while protecting the constitutional rights and legitimate interests of their citizens.
The development follows Kazakhstan’s similar international treaties established with Spain twelve years ago, another strategic partner in the region.
This comes as relations between Kazakhstan and Morocco have seen significant development in recent months.
Last September, the two countries signed a visa-free agreement allowing citizens of both nations to travel without visas for up to 30 days within a 180-day period.
