Chile Optimistic About ‘Great Potential’ of Improved Bilateral Ties with Morocco

Rabat - Chile’s Foreign Minister Alberto Van Klaveren Stork said today he is optimistic about the “great potential” of his country’s increasingly improving bilateral ties with Morocco.

The top Chilean diplomat made his remarks following a meeting with Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita on Wednesday in Rabat.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed avenues for expanding cooperation, particularly in economic matters, and emphasized the importance of revitalizing the joint bilateral committee for trade and investment between the two countries.

“We are here to explore the possibilities of bilateral cooperation and all the potential that is opening up in the relations between our two coutnries,” Klaveren Stork said, highlighting that the idea is to also explore further opportunities to solidify bilateral economic relationships.

During his visit, the Chilean official also reiterated his country’s “constant support for the UN-led political process aimed at a just pragmatic, sustainable, and realistic political solution to the dispute over Western Saara.

He also commended Morocco’s serious and credible efforts to advance the process towards a political solution.

The visit came a day after Chilean Senator Fracisco Chauan affirmed the Chilean Senate support for Morocco's autonomy initiative.

The senator said the autonomy model has demonstrated its effectiveness in achieving development and addressing local populations’ concerns.
